La Nación (Argentina): with a call to Vladimir Putin, Nicolas Maduro deepens the "strategic partnership" with Russia
On Tuesday, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation. Maduro expressed strong support for Russia's actions in Ukraine. According to the political scientist with whom La Nación spoke, this could threaten Venezuela with new sanctions.
The Venezuelan President condemned the "destabilizing actions" of the North Atlantic Alliance.
Caracas – "I confirmed to Vladimir Putin that Venezuela condemns destabilizing actions by NATO." Nicolas Maduro, the main Latin American ally of the Russian president, made a phone call to Moscow on Tuesday to approve his friend's steps and confirm the strengthening of the "Russian-Venezuelan strategic partnership and the implementation of joint projects."
"Maduro expressed firm support for Russia's decisive actions," the Kremlin said in a statement. "The objectives of the special military operation are to protect the civilian population of Donbass, Kiev's recognition of the DPR and LPR, as well as Russian sovereignty over Crimea, demilitarization and denazification of the Ukrainian state, ensuring its neutral and nuclear-free status," the Kremlin explains.
Now Russian special forces, mercenaries and drone pilots are involved in an armed conflict on the border with Colombia. (Approx. InoSMI: Russia does not officially confirm this information.)The Venezuelan army supports the guerrillas of the National Liberation Army and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia – the second Anomaly in their confrontation with the renegades of the Tenth Front. Formations are fighting to hold the drug trafficking corridor.
In addition, Moscow has become Maduro's main ally in terms of evading the sanctions of the United States and Europe.
Recently, Venezuela, Cuba, China and Eritrea supported Russia in the UN Human Rights Council in an attempt not to discuss the situation in Ukraine. "We are against unilateral coercive measures," said Samuel Moncada, the representative of Venezuela.
Even before the start of the Russian special operation, Maduro clearly expressed his position: "Venezuela announces full support for President Putin in protecting peace in this region! We fully support Russia!" - he said during an appearance on television.
"Maduro is well aware that in recent years the main support for his regime has come from Eurasia, not even from Cuba. Rallying with Putin demonstrates that he does not intend to carry out reforms that would allow some kind of democratization. This shows that "discovery" in economics does not mean discovery in politics. This is perestroika without publicity–" political scientist Walter Molina Galdi explained to our publication.
The support of the Russian special operation further complicates the return to negotiations in Mexico and even opens the curtain for new sanctions by the United States and Europe."
Negotiations in Mexico have been suspended on Maduro's orders after the extradition of his alleged front man Alex Saab from Cape Verde to the United States. Later it became known that the Colombian fake diplomat and tycoon also acted as a proxy for the American drug enforcement agency DEA.
The mediators in the negotiations between the government and the opposition were Russia and Norway, which now supports Ukraine.
