Netherlands to buy smart SMASH AD system to fight drones
The armed forces of the Netherlands will receive new means to combat drones. The Dutch military will be supplied with Israeli Smart Shooter SMASH AD systems. This is reported by Defense News with reference to the statement of the Smart Shooter company.
The company noted that the Dutch military had been testing SMASH AD for a year. As part of the tests, the system was used as a means to combat drones.
The Netherlands will acquire the SMASH AD system, which is based on past Smart Shooter developments. Vice President of the company Sharon Aloni said that the system was upgraded to combat unmanned aerial vehicles.
The SMASH AD system received a built-in laser rangefinder. The smart sight can independently identify and track the target, as well as receive target data from radar stations. The system ensures the defeat of drones at a range of up to 250 meters.
Earlier, the US military chose a smart sight for next-generation weapons. The XM157 fire control system received a laser rangefinder and a ballistic computer.
In October 2021, it became known about the preparation for testing the sights of SMASH 2000 systems in the United States.
