MOSCOW, February 26. /tass/. Roscosmos plans that the promising Orlyonok spacecraft will be able to be launched into orbit using the Amur methane rocket with a returnable stage. This was announced by the general director of the state corporation Dmitry Rogozin.
"The designers of the Rocket and Space Corporation Energia are faced with the task of making the "Eaglet" in terms of mass-dimensional characteristics so that it can be placed on a medium-class rocket. A variant of the carrier for this ship will eventually become a methane rocket with a returnable first stage "Amur", - Rogozin said in an interview with the magazine "Russian Cosmos".
According to the head of Roscosmos, these plans are not spelled out in the current Federal Space Program, but after receiving the results of the preliminary design, adjustments will be made to the program.
In October 2020, Roscosmos and Progress RCC signed a contract for the development of a preliminary design of a space rocket complex with the first Russian reusable rocket powered by methane "Amur". The rocket will receive a returnable first stage and will be launched from the Vostochny cosmodrome in the Amur Region.
