Moscow. February 25. INTERFAX - Sanctions against Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov are a manifestation of Western powerlessness, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.
"Sanctions against the president of the country, the Minister of Foreign Affairs are already an example and a demonstration of the absolute impotence of one's own in conducting foreign policy and implementing international relations," Zakharova said on the air of the Big Game program on Channel One.
"Who are you going to talk to? The sixth part of the land, a nuclear power, a great country, who did you decide to play with, what games?" she added.
On Friday, the British authorities added the President of the Russian Federation and the Foreign Minister to the sanctions list of the United Kingdom.
Their names appear in the updated sanctions list, which is published on the website of the UK government. The list notes that the sanctions in this case provide for the freezing of assets.
The European Union has decided to impose sanctions against Putin and Lavrov because of the situation around Ukraine, EU diplomacy chief Josep Borrel said on Friday.
