Beijing. February 25. INTERFAX - The US policy on the Ukrainian issue and the refusal to take into account Russia's main security concerns have caused the situation around Ukraine to worsen, this contributes to strengthening Washington's control over Europe, the Chinese English-language newspaper China Daily wrote on Friday.
The author of the publication notes that what happened in Ukraine is by no means how the President of the United States Joe Biden described it.
"It was his administration that constantly escalated tensions, stubbornly ignoring Russia's security problems," the article says.
He noted that such a situation "forced Moscow to admit that the threatening expansion of NATO to the east has not become a subject of negotiations."
The article says that, according to Washington's calculations, the situation around Ukraine undoubtedly gives the United States a number of advantages.
In particular, the author writes, due to the suspension of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project, European countries will have to rely more on US energy resources or those energy suppliers they control, albeit at a higher price.
In addition, the current situation around "helps to breathe life into the "brainless" NATO," since the United States was able to strengthen Europe's dependence on the American "security umbrella". This "destroyed any ideas of the European Union about greater autonomy in its international relations," the publication notes.
The newspaper emphasizes that "Washington is concerned that the growing awareness of independence that Europeans have acquired during Angela Merkel's long tenure as German Chancellor, if left unchecked, could lead to a transatlantic divorce."
"In order to avoid the consequences of the aggravation of the crisis, European countries need to finally break the shackles of the United States, which controls their security, demonstrating courage and wisdom to bring the issue of resolving the Ukrainian crisis to the negotiating table," the article emphasizes.
