Minsk. February 24. INTERFAX - President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko declares the need to strengthen the protection of the western border of Belarus.
"Five battalions of tactical groups of special operations forces, armed to the teeth, have been withdrawn to cover the southern border. They were withdrawn tonight, last night and are on duty around the perimeter of the border. All border troops are serving in an enhanced mode. We have closed the entire border, now we need to think about the most dangerous direction - this is the western direction," Lukashenko said on Thursday during a meeting with the military convened in connection with the situation in Ukraine. A video with the speech of the Belarusian president was published by the telegram channel "Pool of the First", close to his press service.
According to the Belarusian president, "nothing will happen in the south in the near future, and if it does, we have enough forces and means there." "We should only be afraid of provocateurs and saboteurs in the south. Including those bandits and our fugitives who are preparing in their camps to fight here in Belarus against our people. But five battalions of tactical groups, border detachments, plus maneuver groups that are concentrated there, this is even unnecessary for the southern border," he stressed.
