The Presidents of Russia and Turkey, Putin and Erdogan, discussed security issues and the recognition of the independence of the LPR and DPR by the Russian Federation by phone

MOSCOW, February 23/ Radio Sputnik. On Wednesday evening, Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Kremlin's press service reports.

The Heads of State discussed the situation in eastern Ukraine and security issues.

"The leaders also exchanged assessments of the situation in connection with Russia's recognition of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics," the release says.

Putin stressed that the decision taken by Moscow is connected with the current situation in the Donbass.

In turn, Erdogan outlined to his Russian counterpart "his well-known views" on the situation.

Another topic of discussion was the relations between Russia and the West. The Kremlin's press service noted that Putin drew the Turkish leader's attention to the fact that the United States and NATO did not treat Russia's proposals with due attention.

"The topic of developing long-term legal guarantees for the security of the Russian Federation was also touched upon. In this context, Vladimir Putin expressed disappointment with the reaction of the United States and NATO, which amounted to an attempt to ignore legitimate Russian concerns and demands," the Kremlin's press service added.

Earlier, Sputnik radio reported on the readiness of the Russian Foreign Ministry to continue negotiations with the West on issues related to security issues.
