The Minsk agreements no longer exist, we have recognized the DPR and the LPR. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin at a press conference after talks with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
He noted that Russia was interested in the implementation of the Minsk agreements, because it is the result of a compromise. However, after the public statement of the Ukrainian authorities about the unwillingness to fulfill them, the Russian Federation could not continue to tolerate the genocide of the people of Donbass.
"Europe could not force Kiev to fulfill the Minsk agreements, so Russia was forced to make a decision to recognize the DPR and the LPR," he said.
The Russian leader stressed that the Minsk agreements were "killed" by Kiev long before Russia recognized the republics of Donbass.
Recall that on February 21, after an hour-long speech about the events in Ukraine, Putin supported the decision to recognize the independence of the republics of Donbass and began signing decrees in the presence of their leaders Denis Pushilin (DNR) and Leonid Pasechnik (LNR). Agreements on friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance were also signed, Eadaily says.
