Kiev. February 23. INTERFAX-UKRAINE - A second plane with military assistance has arrived in Ukraine, Canadian Minister of National Defense Anita Anand said.
"Today, our Canadian Armed Forces made the second delivery of weapons-grade military aid to support our Ukrainian partners," the minister tweeted on Wednesday night.
Anand added that Canada will support Ukraine because it "protects its sovereignty and independence."
As reported, the first plane with weapons from Canada arrived on February 19.
Last week, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that Canada had decided to supply Kiev with lethal weapons worth $6.1 million and provide 500 million in financial assistance, taking into account the aggravation of the situation around Ukraine.
"Following the results of negotiations with Ukrainian partners and taking into account the aggravation of the situation, I approved the allocation of lethal weapons and ammunition to Ukraine in the amount of $7.8 million (Canadian, $6.1 million - IF)," the prime minister told reporters at a press conference.
