Serbian film director Emir Kusturica accepted the offer of Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu to become the chief director of the Central Academic Theater of the Russian Army, the press secretary of the head of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation Rossiyana Markovskaya told reporters.
According to her, Shoigu met with Kusturica on Monday.
"The head of the military department stressed the long-standing friendly relations with Kusturica, his talent and great work coming from the heart. Noting Kusturica's role in preserving and developing the best traditions of Russian culture, Shoigu offered him the position of chief director of the Central Academic Theater of the Russian Army," Markovskaya said.
According to her, Kusturica accepted the offer.
"For me, Sergei Shoigu's offer to become the chief director of the theater is a great honor. The stage of the Theater of the Russian Army has a great history and traditions. The creative plans for the new post are to transfer the plots of famous films into performances, for example, "Cranes are Flying", "Life is like a Miracle" and others," Markovskaya quoted Kusturica as saying.
She added that the director expressed hope that "it will be a successful work" and stressed that "in a world where values are changing very quickly," he will try to preserve classical values.
