NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg: if Russia's goal is less NATO on the borders, then it will only get more NATO

MOSCOW, February 19/ Radio Sputnik. Russia wants to reduce NATO's military and political presence on its borders, but will receive "even more NATO," Alliance Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said at the Munich Security Conference.

"The current crisis shows the importance of transatlantic relations for European security... NATO is a defense alliance, it does not threaten Russia or anyone else. But we will take all necessary measures to protect our members... If the Kremlin's goal is to have less NATO on its borders, it will only get more NATO. If he wants to divide the alliance, he will only get an even more unified alliance," he quotes Stoltenberg RIA Novosti.

In February, the situation in Donbass escalated again, including against the background of statements by Western media and officials about Russia's alleged plans to invade Ukraine.

On February 18, the heads of the DPR and LPR announced the temporary evacuation of the population to the territory of Russia, in the evening of the same day, the first buses took women, children and elderly people out of the republics.

Earlier, Sputnik radio reported why the head of the British Ministry of Defense, Ben Wallace, canceled participation in the Munich conference.
