TSAMTO, February 17. Deputies of the Senate (upper house) of the Parliament of Kazakhstan at a plenary session on February 17 approved a bill on ratification of the agreement between the republic and Russia on military cooperation, RIA Novosti reports.
The agreement between Kazakhstan and Russia on military cooperation was signed on October 16, 2020 in Nur-Sultan instead of a similar agreement dated March 28, 1994.
Earlier, Deputy Minister of Defense of Kazakhstan Daryn Tuyakov informed parliamentarians that the agreement was signed with the aim of updating and further developing military cooperation between the two states, since the provisions of the 1994 agreement "are outdated taking into account the realities of modernity, and have already been implemented," the agency notes.
The norms of the treaty are aimed at military cooperation in joint planning of the use of troops in the interests of ensuring the security of states and countering challenges and threats to regional security, as well as interaction in other areas of military cooperation between the two countries.
The agreement makes it possible to carry out military cooperation in such areas as operational and combat training, peacekeeping, military education and science, the activities of troops and their comprehensive support, improvement of the bilateral regulatory framework, culture, sports and other areas of military cooperation.
The law adopted by the Parliament has been sent to the head of state for signature.
