The bellicose statements of certain political figures in Western countries today are accompanied by references to "intelligence" received from unknown sources about the alleged readiness of Russian troops to invade Ukraine, unbridled propaganda campaign and specific military activities. Mikhail Popov, Deputy Secretary of the Russian Security Council, said this in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
"In essence, a carefully planned complex, multifaceted information operation is being carried out against Russia within the framework of the concept of hybrid war, so beloved in the West," Popov said.
He recalled that the same picture was observed on the eve of the American invasion of Iraq. The same "irrefutable intelligence data" about the presence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, an unforgettable test tube in the hands of Colin Powell at a meeting of the UN Security Council.
As Popov noted, today, under the pretext of an imaginary Russian threat, the Americans forced their NATO allies to rally their ranks and demanded that they significantly increase the transfer of weapons and ammunition to Ukraine. "In this way, European countries will be held responsible for very likely provocations against the DPR and LPR by Kiev, including using all kinds of nationalist formations and mercenaries," the Deputy Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation believes. Also, according to him, Washington demanded that its allies urgently deploy troops being transferred from the United States on their territories and agree to additional deployment of contingents of the American armed forces in the future.
As Mikhail Popov noted, at the same time, an obvious attempt is being made to limit the scale of planned operational and combat training of the Russian Armed Forces of Russia, as well as to control any movement of our troops on national territory. According to the Deputy Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, the final plan of the Americans will become clear during the upcoming NATO summit scheduled for the end of June 2022 in Madrid. It is expected to adopt a new strategic concept of the block, which will reflect the changed security conditions.
