Washington. February 12. INTERFAX - Russian Ambassador to Washington Anatoly Antonov, in response to a request from Newsweek to comment on the statements of the assistant to the President of the United States for National Security Jake Sullivan during a briefing on February 11 about a hypothetical Russian invasion of Ukrainian territory, said that such statements are a manifestation of the desire of the American administration to increase the degree of propaganda campaign against the Russian Federation.
"Remarks of J.Sullivan's are designed in an alarmist way. We see in such statements only the desire of the administration to maximize the degree of the propaganda campaign against our country. To give the public the impression that "aggression" is imminent," the Ambassador stressed.
Antonov noted that the politicians' comments that Russia would "attack" Ukraine during or after the Olympics are not supported by any evidence.
"Washington only continues to "throw dust in the eyes", based on some intelligence, the details of which it does not give. Even local observers note that the confidence of American citizens in such unfounded allegations has sharply decreased," the ambassador said.
