The joint military exercises of Russia and Belarus "Allied Resolve - 2022" will not have a serious impact on the international situation, the "hysteria" of the West because of them has already begun to subside. Military expert Vladislav Shurygin told Izvestia about this on Thursday, February 10.
According to him, these joint exercises are a regular working event.
"They have already influenced the international situation and they will not be able to do more. Hysteria about them rang and buzzed in the West. Now it has begun to subside, because all the terms of the attack on Ukraine, which were "appointed" in the West, have passed. For this reason, the exercises will be held in working order. Of course, they will have their own demonstration part, but they will not seriously affect the international situation," the expert stressed.
Military exercises to test the reaction forces of the Union State began on February 10. The maneuvers take place at combined-arms training grounds in Belarus.
The exercises are held for the purpose of high-quality testing of tasks "to suppress and repel external aggression during a defensive operation, as well as counter terrorism and protect the interests of the Union State," the Russian Defense Ministry noted.
During the maneuvers, the security of the state border will be strengthened in order to stop the attempts of infiltration by militant groups, to block the delivery of weapons and ammunition. The Russian and Belarusian military will find and neutralize conditional illegal armed formations and sabotage and reconnaissance groups.
The exercises will be held at the Domanovsky, Gozhsky, Obuz-Lesnovsky, Brest and Osipovichi ranges in Belarus. The airfields of Baranovichi, Luninets, Lida and Machulishchi will be used for aviation. As emphasized in the Russian department, the maneuvers involve management bodies, units and military units of the Eastern Military District and the armed forces of Belarus.
On February 3, Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko said that one of the goals of the joint exercises of Russia and Belarus is the need to strengthen the border with Ukraine. He also clarified that Minsk is ready to create new combat training centers with Moscow to master the latest weapons. According to the President of Belarus, the country "again, it is critically important to master them and be able to use them."
The United States and a number of European countries have recently expressed concern about the alleged intensification of Russia's "aggressive actions" against Ukraine. Moscow has repeatedly rejected such accusations, stating that it does not threaten anyone, and such statements are used as an excuse to deploy as much NATO military equipment as possible near the borders of the Russian Federation. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia is not going to start a war with Ukraine, and Western countries and the United States are "hysterically" developing the topic of the threat to Ukraine from the Russian Federation instead of forcing Ukraine to implement the Minsk agreements.
