The verification of the reaction forces of the Union State will end with the exercises "Allied Determination - 2022", which will be held from February 10 to 20
RIGA, February 10. /tass/. Latvia currently has no plans to increase the combat readiness of the armed forces in connection with the upcoming joint military exercises of the units of Belarus and Russia. This was stated by the commander of the National Armed Forces of the Republic Leonid Kalnins.
"Latvia is not planning such steps," he told the LETA news agency on Wednesday. According to him, at the end of last year, the Latvian army took appropriate measures to strengthen security, for example, by holding large-scale exercises in the Latgale region in the east of the country. In addition, since the summer of last year, military personnel have been on duty at the Latvian-Belarusian border, helping border guards in the fight against illegal migration from the territory of Belarus.
At the same time, Kalnins stressed that the NVS is actively monitoring the situation. "In fact, the exercises [in Belarus] have been going on since the end of last year, but now they are simply held with the participation of a much larger number of military personnel," he said.
In connection with the Russian-Belarusian exercises, Lithuania raised the level of combat readiness of its troops on February 7. As the commander of the Lithuanian army, Lieutenant General Valdemaras Rupshis, noted, the level of operational readiness has been increased in order to respond to possible threats as soon as possible with the movement of troops to those points where this may happen.
The inspection of the reaction forces of the Union State taking place in Belarus will end with the exercises "Allied Determination - 2022", which will be held from February 10 to 20. As the Russian Ambassador to Belarus Boris Gryzlov said on Wednesday, the number of troops and weapons participating in them does not exceed the bar set by the Vienna Document of 2011.
