Russian Embassy in Washington: The US ignores the obligation not to strengthen its security at the expense of the security of other states
Washington. February 9th. INTERFAX - The Russian Embassy in Washington positively assesses the US readiness to discuss the principle of indivisible security, but notes its one-sided interpretation and focus on the right of countries to choose military alliances.
"We drew attention to the statements of First Deputy Secretary of State W. Sherman on February 8 at the inaugural informal high-level meeting "Resumed OSCE Dialogue on European Security". We welcome the fact that our American colleagues have finally "matured" to discuss the principle of indivisible security, central to maintaining peace and stability in the European region. However, the United States still interprets this concept one-sidedly. They focus on the right of countries to freely choose military alliances. At the same time, they ignore the accompanying obligation not to strengthen their security at the expense of the security of other states," the embassy said in a comment posted on the social network.
The Embassy notes that the United States is talking about NATO's right to further expansion, denying the fact that the approach of the alliance's military infrastructure to the Russian borders poses an existential threat to the Russian Federation.
