The country intends to accelerate the implementation of the space project
SEOUL, February 8. /tass/. The Republic of Korea is investing 12 billion won ($10 million) in the development of high-performance liquid-fueled rocket engines by next year to accelerate the implementation of the space project. This was announced on Tuesday by the Ministry of Science and Information and Communication Technologies.
In 2020, the Government of the country presented the Space Challenge program, which aims to create new technologies in the space industry by 2030. The project aims to develop a next-generation space rocket, which will replace the Nuri launch vehicle (KSLV-II), equipped with 75-ton engines.
In October last year, the first launch of Nuri was made in the country. During the flight, all systems worked normally, but at the last stage the rocket was unable to put a one-and-a-half-ton mock-up of the satellite into orbit. South Korean scientists have been developing a launch vehicle since 2010. 2 trillion won ($1.79 billion) were allocated for the project. In May 2022, with the help of Nuri, it is planned to launch a 200-kilogram satellite into orbit.
