TSAMTO, February 7. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said in an interview with the American newspaper Washington Post that his country supplied Ukraine with 5,000 helmets at the request of Kiev, while strict export restrictions play a big role in the issue of possible arms supplies.
"Firstly, Ukraine has asked to send helmets, and we have responded to this request. Secondly, there are strict export criteria that we adhere to when exporting weapons to crisis regions. There is a long succession of German export restrictions on weapons, which the previous government was engaged in, and there is continuity in this matter," O. Scholz is quoted as saying by RIA Novosti.
As the agency reminds, the ambassador of Ukraine to Germany has repeatedly called and demanded to start supplying defensive weapons to Kiev, but the German government, led by Social Democrat Olaf Scholz, said they would not supply weapons to the conflict regions.
