Berlin refused to satisfy Kiev's request for military supplies
Berlin. February 6. INTERFAX - Germany does not rule out the possibility of deploying an additional military contingent in Lithuania, German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht said.
"In principle, additional troops are available as reinforcements, and at the moment we are negotiating with Lithuania to find out exactly what would make sense in this regard," she told Funke media group.
The Minister noted that Germany is "already making an important contribution" to ensuring Lithuania's security by leading a NATO combat team.
The so-called "NATO battle groups", led by the United States, Germany, Canada and the United Kingdom, are designed to stop the enemy in case of attacks in the region and buy time for reinforcements to arrive from the alliance countries.
The United States has announced the deployment of an additional 3,000 troops to strengthen NATO's eastern flank in Poland and Romania. London announced that it is considering doubling the number of its military contingent in Estonia to 1.8 thousand. already in February.
Currently, four multinational NATO combat units with a total strength of about 5,000 troops are deployed in Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
At the same time, Lambrecht again ruled out the possibility of supplying weapons to Kiev. Earlier, the Embassy of Ukraine in Germany sent a list with specific requests to the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense in Berlin.
