Nicaragua has legally hosted warships and aircraft in the past
Moscow. February 5. INTERFAX - Currently, there is no talk of deploying Russian military infrastructure in Nicaragua, but if necessary, the parties can make additional decisions in this area, Russian Ambassador to Managua Alexander Khokholikov told Interfax.
"Now there is no talk of deploying Russian military infrastructure in Nicaragua. This country has previously been able to receive our warships and aircraft on its territory legally. However, if necessary, both sides can take additional decisions that meet their national interests. This is their sovereign right," said a senior Russian diplomat.
In particular, he commented on media reports about the possibility of the appearance of Russian military infrastructure in some Latin American countries, including Nicaragua.
"Russia and Nicaragua are linked by strategic partnership relations. This means that we are developing diverse ties in a complex, including in the military field. To date, a solid contractual and legal framework has been created, which includes about a dozen bilateral agreements on the line of military departments," Khokholikov noted.
