Washington. February 4. INTERFAX - A new agreement on defense cooperation between the two countries was signed in Washington by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Slovak Defense Minister Jaroslav Nagy, US State Department spokesman Ned Price said.
According to the agreement, the United States will be able to use several Slovak military airfields and bases free of charge for 10 years with the possibility of extension. It is also envisaged that the United States will allocate $ 100 million for the modernization of the Slovak defense infrastructure.
"This agreement makes it easier for our military to coordinate common defensive efforts, such as joint training and exercises. This will create opportunities for more regular consultations between our countries on threats to our peoples, international peace and security," Blinken said during the signing ceremony.
He noted that the United States will not create its permanent military bases in Slovakia or permanently deploy American troops in the country.
