Tallinn. February 4. INTERFAX - The Estonian government at a meeting on Thursday discussed the country's readiness to cope with the consequences of the escalation of Russia's military actions in Ukraine and defined the tasks of ensuring a full range of national defense.
"There is no direct military threat to Estonia, but every person and organization should be prepared for the consequences of the expansion of hostilities in Ukraine. The concentration of Russian forces on the borders of Ukraine and aggressive behavior towards the security of the whole of Europe forces us to thoroughly prepare for the crisis accompanying the intensification of military activity," Prime Minister Kaja Kallas said, the government's press service reported.
The Prime Minister stressed that in addition to allied relations, the basis of Estonia's security is independent defense capability and comprehensive national defense.
"As a society, we must be prepared for the flow of war refugees, the deepening energy crisis, cyber attacks, as well as broader economic and social consequences. The government has a plan to increase the country's preparedness and combat such situations," Kallas said.
Thus, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sees as its main task in the field of security close communication with allies, readiness to support Estonian citizens in Ukraine and actively work in international organizations.
To achieve the goals in the field of military national defense, the government additionally allocates 380 million euros, ahead of a busy period of exercises both on land and in the air, and at sea.
