Chinese Tianwen-1 took a selfie against the background of the North Pole of Mars
The Chinese spacecraft Tianwen-1, located in near-Martian orbit, shot a video showing itself against the background of the Red Planet. The corresponding video can be viewed on Twitter .
According to Ars Technica, the selfie was taken using a camera located 1.6 meters away from the artificial satellite and used to monitor its external condition. The publication noted that in the video, in particular, you can see the North Pole of Mars, covered with frozen carbon dioxide.
"Part of it, of course, is propaganda. But China has a very developed national space program," writes Ars Technica.
In May 2021, the lander of the Tianwen-1 interplanetary station with the Zhurong planetary rover made a successful landing on the surface of Mars. Thus, China became the third country after the USSR and the USA to make a successful soft landing on Mars, and the second after the United States, whose rover earned on the surface of the Red Planet.
