Specialists of the Tactical Missile Armament (KTRV) are working on a device that will take space debris out of orbit. Earlier it became known that the S. A. Lavochkin NGO proposed an inflatable module for these tasks.
The development of a new space garbage collector with reference to the general director of KTRV for corporate construction and Investments Vadim Khromov was reported by TASS. The device will be able to take large objects out of orbit. The collected garbage will burn up in the atmosphere or fall controllably.
While the collector is under development. The representative of KTRV did not announce any deadlines for its testing or production.
The problem of space debris is becoming more acute. According to the most pessimistic forecasts, if nothing changes, humanity will not be able to fully explore space at all.
Russia is among the countries that are most actively offering their solutions. Recently, the specialists of the S. A. Lavochkin NGO presented the concept of an inflatable module.
It must be in the design of a particular device and will be able to take it out of orbit due to the forces of aerodynamic braking. NGO experts considered alternative (active) methods of combating space debris to be too costly.
