Moscow will carefully study the written responses of the United States and NATO, after which it will decide on its further actions
Moscow. January 28. INTERFAX - The issue of providing Russia with long-term, legally secured security guarantees was the main topic of a lengthy telephone conversation between the Presidents of Russia and France, Vladimir Putin and Emmanuel Macron, the Kremlin's press service reported.
"The leaders exchanged views on the measures taken in both countries to combat coronavirus infection. The main topic of the conversation was the issue of providing Russia with long-term, legally secured security guarantees, including against the background of recent Russian-American talks in Geneva and a meeting within the framework of the Russia-NATO Council in Brussels," the press service said.
Putin noted that the Russian side "will carefully study the written responses received on January 26 from the United States and NATO to the draft agreements on security guarantees, after which it will decide on its further actions."
"At the same time, attention was drawn to the fact that the American and NATO responses did not take into account such fundamental concerns of Russia as the prevention of NATO expansion, the refusal to deploy strike weapons systems near the Russian borders, as well as the return of the military potential and infrastructure of the bloc in Europe to the positions of 1997, when the Russia-NATO Founding Act was signed," the message says.
