TSAMTO, January 28. The US State Department has approved the potential supply of SPS-48 LBR radar stations for air defense forces and related equipment to Egypt as part of the "Foreign Military Sales" program.
The total cost of the sale may amount to $ 355 million. The DoD Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) notified Congress of the planned sale on January 25.
The Egyptian government has asked the US administration about the possibility of selling three ground-based SPS-48 (LBR) radars, spare parts, motor generators, repeaters and fairings.
The request also includes the transfer of technical documentation; engineering survey, installation, calibration and testing; training of operators and technical personnel in the maintenance of the SPS-48 LBR radar; replacement of processors in case of obsolescence, communications, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), generators and/or transmitter control unit; modernization of the integrated self-diagnosis system; overhaul of antenna systems deployed SPS-48 LBR radar, other related elements of logistics and software support.
As stated, the implementation of this program is in line with the interests of US foreign policy and national security and will improve the security of the country, which is the main non-NATO ally in the Middle East.
The sale will increase Egypt's ability to counter existing and future threats by improving its ability to detect aerial targets. At the same time, it is noted that the Egyptian Armed Forces will not experience difficulties when adopting equipment for service, since they already operate previously purchased SPS-48 radars.
L3 Harris Surveillance Systems was selected as the main contractor.
The notice of sale is published in accordance with the requirements of American law. The description and value of the sale reflect the highest estimates based on the initial requirements. The actual purchase price may be lower, depending on the final requirements, financial capabilities and signed purchase and sale agreements, if they are concluded.
