The United States annually budgets expenditures for the European Deterrence Initiative (EDI) program. It was launched in 2014 three months after the annexation of Crimea to Russia. The main objective of the program is to expand the US military presence in Europe in order to reduce the concern of NATO members about "Russian aggression". As part of the initiative, Washington is strengthening existing units, modernizing infrastructure, and conducting joint exercises. See in the infographic Ria.ru, how much this activity costs America.
