The State Department, according to media reports, is going to urge Americans to leave Ukraine if possible
Washington. January 22. INTERFAX - The US State Department has decided to begin the evacuation of the families of employees of its embassy in Ukraine in the near future, Fox News reported on Saturday, citing unnamed American officials.
"The State Department has ordered the families of embassy staff in Ukraine to begin evacuation," Fox News correspondent Lucas Tomlinson tweeted. According to him, the order can begin to be carried out "as early as Monday.
There have been no official reports from the State Department on this matter.
According to the interlocutor of Fox News, next week the State Department is expected to call on US citizens to leave Ukraine on passenger flights, taking advantage of the fact that "there is still such an opportunity."
In addition, according to Fox News, at the beginning of next week it is planned to deliver to Ukraine a batch of Javelin anti-tank missiles from the Baltic states, as well as from American military depots.
Earlier on Saturday, CNN reported, citing sources, that the US Embassy in Ukraine appealed to the State Department with a request to allow the departure of all minor employees of the diplomatic mission, as well as family members of diplomats from Kiev.
A State Department official did not confirm this information to CNN, saying he had "nothing to report at this time." He added, however, "We are conducting careful contingency planning, as we always do, in the event of a deteriorating security situation."
A source close to the Ukrainian government told CNN that the US has informed Ukraine of these plans, as well as that the evacuation of the families of diplomats from the embassy in Kiev will begin "probably as early as next week."
