New York (UN). January 22. INTERFAX - The United States does not rule out military involvement in the conflict over Ukraine, the US Permanent Representative to the UN, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, said in an interview with the Moldovan Jurnal TV channel.
In response to the question whether "military measures are taken into account" in the event of a "Russian invasion" of Ukraine, she said: "Absolutely. We have already stated that as far as our response is concerned, we do not exclude anything from the agenda."
At the same time, the diplomat said that the United States expects that "the Russians will respond to efforts to find a diplomatic solution and de-escalate the situation along the border."
"If this does not happen (...), if the Russians invade Ukraine or take any aggressive actions against Ukraine, we will respond aggressively," Thomas-Griffield stressed.
She recalled that the United States provided Ukraine with military assistance of almost $2.7 billion, and Secretary of State Anthony Blinken promised Ukraine additional funding during a recent visit to Kiev.
In response to a question about whether the United States takes into account the possibility of a Russian attack on Ukraine from Transnistria, the permanent representative said: "Yes, we monitor each individual border and interact with all Ukraine's neighbors to help them prepare for any actions that may come from Russia."
"We are closely following their action plans and are ready," the diplomat stressed.
