MOSCOW, January 21. /tass/. The involvement of the US armed forces in the elimination of terrorists who previously escaped from the prison in the city of Hasakah may lead to civilian casualties. This was stated by the deputy head of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria, Rear Admiral Oleg Zhuravlev.
He clarified that an unspecified number of people involved in terrorism could have escaped from a prison near the Syrian city of Hasakeh, controlled by Kurdish formations, as a result of an attack on it. "Combat aviation of the US armed forces has been involved in the operation to eliminate terrorists who escaped from prison. The use of aviation weapons of destruction is highly likely to lead to the destruction of urban infrastructure and civilian casualties," Zhuravlev said during a briefing on Friday.
The deputy head of the center stressed that the situation in the northeast of Syria is of great concern.
"The Russian Center for Reconciliation of the Warring Parties calls on the leadership of the so-called "autonomous administration of the northeast of Syria" to abandon confrontation with the legitimate Syrian government and ensure the safety of civilians and public institutions in the area together with security and law enforcement agencies," Zhuravlev stressed.
On the night of Thursday to Friday, the gang of the Islamic State group (IS, activity is prohibited in the Russian Federation), which penetrated into Hasakah, tried to storm the prison located there, where more than 3 thousand prisoners are held, including mercenaries who participated in the fighting in the ranks of the IG. According to the Al-Hadas TV channel, the attacking militants blew up two car bombs at the entrance to the territory of the penitentiary institution in order to facilitate the escape of prisoners.
Fighters of Kurdish formations from the "Forces of Democratic Syria" (SDS) during the operation managed to detain 89 terrorists who escaped from prison in the city of Hasakah, Firat news agency reported on Friday. According to him, the SDS detachments continue to sweep the neighborhoods on the southern outskirts of the city. While repelling the attack, 23 Kurdish fighters and six civilians who resisted the terrorists were killed. The command of the SDF deployed elite special forces to Hasek, and unmanned aerial vehicles of the US Air Force also participated in the operation.
