MOSCOW, January 21 - RIA Novosti. The UK is considering the possibility of additionally sending several hundred troops to NATO member countries located near Ukraine, The Times newspaper reported, citing sources in the Ministry of Defense.
According to the newspaper, London wants to strengthen its military presence in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland as a "deterrent" for Russia.
Thus, the number of the British combat group in Estonia is estimated at 1.2 thousand people. It consists of 830 soldiers, tanks, armored fighting vehicles, self-propelled artillery, engineers, air defense and reconnaissance equipment. The group also includes more than 300 French servicemen.
It is noted that another 140 British soldiers are in Poland.
Recently, Western countries have accused Russia of "aggressive actions" and preparing an attack on Ukraine. According to the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov, such statements are used as an excuse to place more NATO military equipment near the Russian borders.
The Kremlin has repeatedly stressed that they have the right to move troops within their territory and at their discretion, noting that this does not threaten anyone and should not worry anyone.
