TSAMTO, January 19. Berlin does not supply lethal weapons to Ukraine, this political line remains unchanged. This, as RIA Novosti reports, was stated by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
"The Federal Government has been pursuing a universal strategy on this issue for many years, and this means that we do not supply lethal weapons. Nothing has changed here with the change of government in December," O. Scholz said at a press conference with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, commenting on reports that the UK will supply Ukraine with light anti-tank defensive weapons.
O. Scholz added that Berlin stands for a diplomatic resolution of the situation around Ukraine through negotiations.
As the agency reminds, earlier, in January of this year, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Berlin, Andriy Melnyk, in an interview with the publications of the Funke media group, called on Berlin to abandon the existing policy on military exports and supply lethal weapons to Ukraine, threatening otherwise with consequences for bilateral relations. The German authorities then stated that Berlin's policy on this issue remains unchanged.
