New York (UN). January 19. INTERFAX - The US Permanent Mission to the UN has taken the initiative to hold a meeting of the UN Security Council on the latest launches of ballistic missiles by North Korea, media reports with links to diplomats in the world organization.
Sources believe that the meeting may take place on Thursday and take place behind closed doors.
The US initiative was supported by Albania, Great Britain, France, Ireland and Mexico, the reports say.
Earlier, the US Permanent Representative to the UN, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, said in an interview with The Washington Post that Washington intends to "continue to increase pressure on the North Koreans."
After Albania, the United Kingdom, France, Ireland, Japan and the United States in a joint statement called on Pyongyang to "refrain from further destabilizing actions," North Korea carried out another missile launch on Monday, the media noted.
