MOSCOW, January 18. /tass/. The command of the Russian Khmeimim airbase in Syria has organized round-the-clock patrolling of the Latakia seaport in connection with the threat of terrorist attacks. This was announced to journalists on Tuesday by the deputy head of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of the warring parties in the Syrian Arab Republic, Rear Admiral Oleg Zhuravlev.
"In accordance with the appeal of the Syrian authorities, the command of the Russian Khmeimim air base has organized round-the-clock patrolling of the seaport and the adjacent territory of Latakia by military police units using Patrol and Tiger armored vehicles. The movement of units from the air is controlled by unmanned aerial vehicles of the Russian Aerospace Forces," he said.
Zhuravlev explained that, according to the information of the Syrian security agencies, sabotage and terrorist groups of radical gangs from the Idlib de-escalation zone are planning terrorist attacks in the ports of Tartus and Latakia.
According to him, over the past day, one shelling was recorded in the Idlib de-escalation zone from the positions of the Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist group (activity is prohibited in the Russian Federation).
