TSAMTO, January 18. During her first visit to Ukraine, German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock noted the immutability of Berlin's policy on defense exports, including regarding the supply of weapons to Kiev, RIA Novosti reports.
Earlier, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Berlin, Andriy Melnyk, in an interview with the Funke media group, called on Berlin to abandon the existing policy on defense exports and supply "defensive" weapons to Ukraine, threatening otherwise with consequences for bilateral relations, the agency recalls.
"A strong foreign policy is manifested in clear positions. Therefore, what I said a couple of weeks and months ago does not change depending on which country I come to. On the contrary, the position of the German Federal Government, namely the restrictive policy of defense exports, is not only known, but it is also based on historical experience. We talked about this in our negotiations – about the various historical responsibilities that we bear. That's why I'm saying now: Germany's contribution in terms of supporting Ukraine, its security, and our cooperation is very diverse," she said at a press conference with her Ukrainian counterpart Dmitry Kuleba in Kiev.
A. Berbok recalled, in particular, that the Ukrainian military are being treated in Germany, Berlin also helped with the construction of a military hospital in Ukraine, RIA Novosti reports.
