Hong Kong. January 16. INTERFAX - The countries of the Middle East do not need external intervention to solve regional problems, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said after a series of talks with the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, Turkey and Iran.
"In a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday, Wang Yi said that the international community should help, not interfere in the affairs of the Middle East," the South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported.
"China's efforts to maintain stability and promote peace in the region should not and will not stop," the minister said, adding that the countries of the region should not copy any external models of public administration.
According to SCMP, during the meetings, they also discussed speeding up negotiations on concluding a free trade agreement, COVID-19 and the transition to a greener economy as part of the fight against global climate change.
Last Friday, Wang Yi also said that China was trying to facilitate negotiations between Iran and the Gulf states, and Saudi Arabia and Iran - "both friends of China" - expressed a desire to improve relations. The Minister also proposed to create a multilateral dialogue mechanism in the Persian Gulf to reduce the risk of conflicts and build trust, and first of all - to work on such important issues as the war in Yemen. Then we could talk about the establishment of a collective security mechanism in the region, Wang Yi said at the time.
In addition, the minister said that the US efforts to democratize the Middle East were only attempts to achieve strategic interests by military methods, which resulted in serious damage to regional security and well-being.
