Minsk. January 15th. INTERFAX - The situation in the CSTO area of responsibility dictates the need to improve the effectiveness of the organization, CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas said on Saturday on the Belarus-1 TV channel.
"The events that took place in Kazakhstan have once again confirmed that it is necessary to strengthen our capabilities to ensure collective security, territorial integrity of our states, sovereignty. This conclusion suggests itself," he said.
"Yes, and in general, the situation that is developing in the CSTO area of responsibility, around our countries, dictates the need to actually improve the effectiveness of our organization, the CSTO," Zas added.
The CSTO Secretary General also noted the efficiency, coherence, effectiveness of the actions of the CSTO peacekeeping contingent, the level of training of all those who participated in this operation. "And it had a positive effect and deserved approval. And, most importantly, there was a positive result of these actions," he said.
In addition, Zas rejected any doubts about the legality of the actions of the CSTO peacekeepers in Kazakhstan. He noted that the very address of the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev absolutely corresponded to the powers that were granted to him in this country, and was adequate to the situation that was developing in the state.
