Washington. January 15th. INTERFAX - US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, in a telephone conversation with South Korean Foreign Minister Chong Yong, discussed issues related to the recent missile launches of the DPRK, and also confirmed the importance of deterring Russia in the Ukrainian issue, the State Department said.
"Blinken condemned the recent launches of ballistic missiles by the DPRK, which were in violation of numerous UN Security Council resolutions," the State Department said in a statement.
It notes that the Secretary of State "confirmed that the alliance of the United States and the Republic of Kazakhstan is the foundation of peace, security and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond." He "stressed the importance of continuing trilateral cooperation between the USA, Kazakhstan and Japan and firmly assured of the commitment of the USA to the defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan."
The State Department informed that the parties discussed cooperation in order to achieve complete denuclearization and lasting peace on the Korean peninsula, as well as the importance of urgent action to end the COVID-19 pandemic.
