MOSCOW, January 14 - RIA Novosti. The West's demand to return Russian troops to the barracks categorically does not suit Russia, the West has overreached, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
Earlier, the US State Department called on Russia to return to the barracks 100 thousand soldiers, who are allegedly concentrated near the borders with Ukraine.
"This categorically cannot suit us, and these are unacceptable approaches. The time that was chosen (for proposals on security guarantees - ed.), it simply reflects the period when the West overreached, let's speak bluntly," Lavrov said at a press conference.
At the end of 2021, Russia published drafts of a treaty with the United States and an agreement with NATO on security guarantees. Moscow, in particular, demands from Western partners legal guarantees against further expansion of NATO to the east, from joining the bloc of Ukraine and from the creation of military bases in post-Soviet countries. On Wednesday, January 12, a meeting of the Russia-NATO Council was held in Brussels. The meeting was held as a follow-up to the negotiations on security guarantees between Russia and the United States, which took place on January 9-10 in Geneva. Consultations on the OSCE platform on Russian proposals on security guarantees were held in Vienna on Thursday.
Russia has repeatedly rejected the accusations of the West and Ukraine in escalation, stating that it does not threaten anyone and is not going to attack anyone, but moves troops within its territory and at its discretion, it does not threaten anyone and should not worry anyone.
