Reuters: in 2022, several models of smart weapons will appear on the American market
In 2022, several models of smart weapons will appear on the US market at once. This is reported by Reuters .
According to the agency, LodeStar Works from Idaho presented a nine-millimeter smart pistol this week. At the same time, the Kansas company SmartGunz reported that law enforcement agencies have begun testing a new smart weapon. In this regard, journalists predict that in 2022, small arms with smart functions will begin to gain popularity in the US market.
So, a pistol from LodeStar Works will be priced at $ 895. The weapon will work only after entering the PIN code and activating the session using its owner's application. Biofire company from Colorado, which is also engaged in the development of smart weapons, told about the creation of a pistol with a built-in fingerprint scanner. SmartGunz models will cost $1,795 for law enforcement officers and $2,195 for civilians.
According to experts, the proliferation of smart small arms should reduce the number of tragic incidents caused by the use of stolen pistols and accidents when children play with their parents' real weapons. In theory, a smart pistol cannot be used in the case of robberies or other crimes when attackers steal weapons from the police or security personnel.
However, experts remind of new problems that owners of smart weapons may face. For example, in 2014, the German company Armatix launched a smart pistol on the market, which was withdrawn from sale due to the fact that hackers were able to remotely activate the firing mode on it.
In August, the Kalashnikov Concern presented the MP-155 Ultima smart rifle. The smart rifle was created on the basis of the MP-155 smoothbore rifle, the model has a monochrome display, several firing modes, communicates with a smartphone via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
