Washington. January 12. INTERFAX - The United States needs to stop threatening Russia and move its military potential away from Russian borders, Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov believes.
"The United States, together with Russia, has a special responsibility for international peace and security. This is written in the UN Charter," Antonov said in a statement posted on the embassy's Facebook page.
"It's time to abandon the aggressive rhetoric of foreign policy expansion, and think about how future generations will live together. To do this, we need to do very little - respect our neighbor, not threaten and move our military potential away from the Russian borders," he said.
According to him, Russia needs "concrete actions" from the United States, and not "misinformation and accusations of all sins."
"It's time to stop the policy of encouraging the fascist thugs who are marching in Kiev," the ambassador stressed.
He added that at the upcoming meeting within the framework of the Russia-NATO Council, Moscow is set up for "a substantive discussion of Russian documents that need to be adopted in the shortest possible time to stabilize the situation in Europe."
At the same time, the ambassador said, "the accusatory rhetoric of senior State Department officials does not contribute to creating a constructive atmosphere in the negotiations."
He noted that the Russian side categorically rejects the "provocative statements" of American high-ranking officials aimed at "torpedoing the negotiation process between Washington and Moscow."
