Washington. January 12. INTERFAX - Washington welcomes the statement of the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the imminent completion of the work of the CSTO peacekeeping forces in the country, US State Department spokesman Ned Price said at a briefing on Tuesday.
"We welcome Mr. Tokayev's statement that the CSTO peacekeeping forces have completed their mission," he said.
"And until this process is completed, until the moment when the CSTO peacekeeping forces are withdrawn, we will continue to urge them to respect international human rights and fulfill their obligations: immediately leave Kazakhstan, as requested by the leadership of Kazakhstan," Price added.
On January 5, the President of Kazakhstan appealed to the leaders of the CSTO countries for help in overcoming the terrorist threat. On January 6, it became known about the decision of the CSTO Council to send peacekeeping forces to Kazakhstan.
