Washington. January 11. INTERFAX - The administration of US President Joe Biden at the end of December quietly authorized the allocation of additional security assistance to Ukraine in the amount of $ 200 million, CNN reports, citing informed sources.
"The security package authorized the supply of most of the same defensive equipment that the United States provided in the past, including small arms and ammunition, protected radios, medical equipment, spare parts and other equipment," the TV channel notes.
It is clarified that the package was approved just a few weeks before the scheduled negotiations between the United States and Russia.
At the same time, according to the channel's sources, the administration notified Congress of the new permit only at the beginning of this month. Some officials found out about it through classified channels, the interlocutors added.
According to the channel's sources, it is likely that the Biden administration did not want to draw attention to the new aid package ahead of negotiations with Russia this week.
The US State Department said the aid would continue, but declined to discuss specific details.
