MURMANSK, January 10 - RIA Novosti. A court in Denmark has decided to detain the head of the kingdom's military intelligence, Lars Findsen, after the agency was accused of violating personal data laws, as well as hiding information, TV2 reported on Monday.
"The head of the intelligence service of the Ministry of Defense, Lars Findsen, has been in custody under conditions of secrecy since December 9 on charges of leaking classified and highly classified information that could damage the security of Denmark or its relations with foreign powers," the broadcaster reported.
Findsen denies his guilt, Danish Radio reported.
It is reported that the decision to detain Findsen, who was temporarily suspended from office in August 2020 as a result of an audit, was made back in December, but then the names of the defendants in this case were not disclosed, and it was unknown who exactly was arrested. Now the court announced the name of the head of the intelligence service.
As previously reported, the investigation into Findsen and several other high-ranking officials was initiated on the basis of data from informants, when it turned out that military intelligence carried out activities that violated Danish law, including those related to obtaining and transmitting information about citizens of the country. Military intelligence is accused of withholding information, failing to take measures to identify signs of espionage within the Ministry of Defense, concealing potentially illegal activities, as well as collecting and transmitting a significant amount of information about Danish citizens.
