Moscow. January 10th. INTERFAX - More than 2 thousand servicemen of the CSTO forces and 250 units of military equipment are performing peacekeeping tasks in Kazakhstan, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.
"To date, in accordance with the decision of the Collective Security Council, the collective peacekeeping forces of the CSTO in the amount of 2,030 people and 250 pieces of equipment have been deployed in the Republic of Kazakhstan and have begun to fulfill their tasks," Tokayev said on Monday at an extraordinary CSTO summit held via videoconference.
According to Tokayev, the CSTO peacekeeping forces "carry out the functions of covering and ensuring the security of airports, military depots and other strategic facilities."
"This is the first peacekeeping mission of the CSTO. I am sure that the Organization will gain useful experience, bottlenecks will be analyzed and appropriate conclusions will be drawn, adjustments to regulatory documents will be made," Tokayev said.
