The parties agreed that any discussion of the security of Europe will take place with the participation of the EU
Brussels. January 9th. INTERFAX - EU Diplomacy Chief Josep Borrel and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken discussed "Russia's military buildup around Ukraine," the European Foreign Service (EMU) reported.
The conversation between the representatives of the two countries took place after Borrel visited Ukraine, including the line of contact in the east of the country.
"They (Borrel and Blinken - IF) confirmed the support of the European Union and the United States for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine and stressed the need for Russia to de-escalate and fully implement the Minsk Agreements," the EMU said in a statement issued in Brussels.
Blinken and Borrel noted during the conversation that "any further military aggression against Ukraine will have grave consequences and a high price."
The parties discussed bilateral and multilateral diplomatic obligations after the proposals of the Russian Federation regarding views on security mechanisms in Europe, the report says.
The US Secretary of State and the head of EU diplomacy confirmed the strength of the partnership between the United States and the European Union and "a common commitment to transatlantic security and countering common security challenges."
