Roscosmos stressed that the current probability of a collision is 0.02%.
MOSCOW, January 8. /tass/. The Institute of Applied Mathematics of the Russian Academy of Sciences has provided Roscosmos with information on celestial objects, including a new asteroid that will approach the Earth in 2095. This is stated in the message of Roscosmos, distributed on Saturday.
"In 2021, the Institute of Applied Mathematics received and transferred to Roscosmos 5,797 measurements on 106 asteroids and 31 comets," the report says.
As specified in the state corporation, reports were received about the discovery of a new asteroid 2021 UL17. "According to preliminary calculations, a dangerous approach to Earth is predicted on April 5, 2095, and the current probability of a collision is only 0.02%," Roscosmos stressed.
The report notes that, among other data, information was transmitted on the asteroid "Apophis", which made it possible to clarify the parameters of its orbital motion. "This has increased the reliability of long-term forecasts of its approaches to the Earth. The result: the probability of a collision is very, very small," the state corporation added.
