Brussels. January 7. INTERFAX - NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the alliance has all the necessary forces and means to protect its allies in the event of a threat in accordance with the principle of collective security.
"We have significant opportunities. We have troops, forces, operational means, necessary plans to ensure the defense and protection of all allies," the head of the North Atlantic Alliance said at a press conference on Friday after an extraordinary online meeting of NATO foreign ministers, where the situation around Ukraine and European security were discussed.
"We are in a constant process of adaptation and are investing much more today than before to modernize our military capabilities in order to ensure peace in Europe," Stoltenberg added.
He explained the strengthening of NATO's military presence on the eastern flank of the alliance as a "deterrence signal", which means that all allies, if necessary, will stand up to defend a member state of the organization.
