Brussels. January 7. INTERFAX - NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg discussed on Friday by phone with Finnish President Sauli Niinisto and Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson "the buildup of Russian forces in Ukraine."
"I talked with President Niinisto about the security situation in Europe and the build-up of Russian forces in and around Ukraine. We call on Russia to de-escalate," the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance tweeted.
He discussed the same issue with the head of the Swedish government. According to his tweet, it was about "the buildup of Russian military power in and around Ukraine and European security."
Stoltenberg noted that the parties talked about "the right of each country to freely choose its own security measures" and respect for "the right of each country to choose its own path."
